Your state representatives and leaders in the Senate and Assembly need to hear from you: New York State's budget crisis CANNOT be solved by cuts to essential services for children.
This is especially important when it comes to children's health. Forty percent (40%) of our state’s children and 66,000 children in Monroe County rely on Medicaid for health insurance. This is important, because children who have access to preventive care like well-child visits and vaccines have lower medical costs throughout childhood and their entire life. The Governor has already made mid-year reductions in Medicaid services. The final 2020-21 state budget should not include any further cuts.
The Governor's proposed budget asks counties to pick up some of the tab for Medicaid costs. To do that, Monroe County would have to re-direct resources from existing programs, potentially harming the children and families who depend on County-funded prevention programs, subsidized child care, therapy for young children with developmental delays and disabilities, services for homeless families and runaway and trafficked youth, Nurse Family Partnership and other parent education programs, and behavioral health services. We can’t afford to cut back on these vital supports for vulnerable families and children!
